Information About CAT Exam
CAT is a computer-based test for admission into MBA and other graduate management programs across top Indian institutes.
- Full form: Common Admission Test
- Conducted annually by IIMs
- Gateway to MBA and management courses
- Tests aptitude, reasoning, and language skills
The CAT exam has 3 sections, each with fixed questions and time limits, combining MCQs and non-MCQs.
- Total questions: 68
- Duration: 2 hours (120 minutes)
- Sections: VARC, DILR, Quant
- Sectional time limit: 40 minutes each
- MCQs: +3 marks correct, -1 negative
- TITA (non-MCQ): +3 marks, no negative marking
To appear for CAT, candidates must be graduates with minimum 50% marks or equivalent from a recognized university.

- Final-year graduation students can apply
- Recognized university degree required
- No age limit for candidates
CAT exam dates are announced annually by the conducting IIM, usually held in November or December.

CAT selection is a two-stage process involving scores, academic background, and further rounds like interview and group discussion.
- Stage 1: Shortlisting based on CAT score, academics, work experience
- Stage 2: Written Ability Test (WAT), Group Discussion (GD), Personal Interview (PI)
- Final admission based on combined performance in both stages

Data Interpretation and Logical Reasoning covers puzzles, graphs, seating arrangements, and various reasoning challenges to test your problem-solving.
- Data Interpretation: bar, line, pie charts, tables, Venn diagrams
- Logical Reasoning: puzzles, games, calendar, sequencing, seating arrangements, directions
- Questions combine visualization and analytical skills
- Tests ability to interpret data and solve logical problems
Quantitative Aptitude assesses your math skills in arithmetic, algebra, geometry, and number theory with a focus on problem-solving speed.
- Arithmetic: percentages, speed, work, profit, mixtures (10-11 questions)
- Geometry: triangles, circles, quadrilaterals, mensuration, coordinate geometry, trigonometry (5-6 questions)
