What is the GMAT Online Exam?

GMAT online test can be taken from anywhere on the scheduled date. However, you need to follow GMAC's pre-test policies, such as selecting the required browser, specifying the test location, and noting which items are allowed and which are prohibited during the online test. Check the eligibility and other requirements for online GMAT below:

Identification Requirements: Having the required ID is the most important step before taking the test. Without a valid ID, your test will be cancelled, and you will need to pay the fee again to take it. The requirement for ID should be as follows:

• An international travel passport is the only acceptable ID for the online GMAT exam. Indian students must note that Aadhaar cards are not accepted as ID for taking the test. The ID policy was revised on June 11, 2025, and no longer considers Aadhaar a valid ID.
• Expired passports are not accepted as a valid ID for the GMAT. 
• As per the ID policy, the following are not considered acceptable IDs:

1. Expired identification
2. Passport cards
3. Social security cards
4. Draft classification cards
5. Credit cards
6. Employee or student IDs
7. Letters from your university or college
8. IDs with physical descriptions in place of photos
9. Photocopies of any form of ID
10. Selfies, portraits, or profile photos

System Requirement: Candidates need to install a web browser on Windows or macOS to take the test. Before you log in, check whether the system, microphone, and webcam are working as required. The specifications for the systems are mentioned below:

Internet Browser	Chrome 80+ or latest Safari; cookies must be enabled and pop-up blockers disabled.
Antivirus	Any antivirus software is allowed, but scheduled scans should be disabled during the exam.
Power Source	Keep the device plugged into a power source throughout the test.

Whiteboard: You can use either a physical or a digital whiteboard for rough work or to make any kind of note. The digital whiteboard will be available on the screen. To use the physical whiteboard, follow the given guidelines.

1. Present your whiteboard to the camera before your exam begins, before the break or before the exam ends. Show the front and the back of the whiteboard.
2. The whiteboard should be 12 inches x 20 inches (30 centimetres x 50 centimetres).
3. It should not be attached to the wall or any surface.
4. Up to 2 dry-erase markers and 1 dry-erase whiteboard eraser are required. 
5. The whiteboard should not have any grids or markings. 
6. Other stationery items are strictly prohibited.

Workspace preparation: As per the guidelines, candidates should follow the listed norms to avoid cancellation of their test.

1. A 360-degree scan of your test-taking space is mandatory. The scan will be done by the exam proctor.
2. Your room must have four walls, and the door should be visible to the camera. If you have glass doors or windows, cover them before taking the test.
3. Anything within arm's reach must be cleared.
4. A water bottle is permitted; it should be transparent.

What is the GMAT Test Centre?

GMAT can be taken at an allotted test centre. Candidates need to schedule their test and choose the exam cities from the provided options. Before the tests, candidates must confirm their exam date, time, and location in their appointment email and by logging into their portal at mba.com. Candidates must review the exam policies to avoid confusion before the exam and the cancellation of their candidature for rule violations. Here are the details you must follow to take the test at the allotted centre.

Pre-exam checklist: 

• The listed details must be followed before you take the test. 
• Make sure you confirm your appointment date, time and location of the exam. 
• Reach the exam centre 30 minutes before the appointment time. Complete the frisking and other checking process.
• A photo ID is mandatory to take the GMAT exam at the centre. Note that only an international travel passport is considered valid for taking the test at the centre. The name on your ID should match the registered name. Similar to the online GMAT ID requirement, no other ID will be considered valid for Indian students.

Items Allowed at GMAT Test Centre:

• ID approved by the GMAT.
• Your appointment confirmation mail. The mail will be sent by Pearson VUE. 
• Prescription eyeglasses are permitted; however, eyeglass cases are not allowed inside the test centre. 
• Students can carry tinted glasses too.
• Technology-enabled glasses are strictly prohibited.
• In case you are carrying any item that is not allowed inside the test centre, you have to make an accommodation request from the portal before the exam. 

Prohibited Items at GMAT Test Centre: 

• You cannot carry electronic gadgets, lip balm, pagers, scratch papers, rulers, translators, or any communication devices. But you can store them in a locker at the test centre.
• Food or any type of drink is not allowed inside the test centre. However, you can apply for accommodation before the exam day to get it approved by the authority.
• Any harmful objects are strictly prohibited inside the GMAT test centre.
