How to Prepare for IPMAT Maths Syllabus?

IPMAT Quantitative Ability requires strong fundamentals, quick calculations, and regular practice across different topics. A focused approach helps you identify high-weightage areas, improve accuracy, and manage time during the exam. Divide the syllabus into manageable sections and prepare each topic through concepts, solved examples, practice questions, and previous year questions.

Strengthen Arithmetic Concepts

Start with Percentages, Profit and Loss, Ratio and Proportion, Averages, Time and Work, Time-Speed-Distance, and Simple and Compound Interest. Learn the basic formulas and practise application-based questions. Focus on calculation shortcuts only after understanding the standard methods, as arithmetic questions often require quick and accurate calculations.

Practise Algebra and Number System Questions

Build your Algebra preparation around equations, inequalities, functions, polynomials, and progressions. For Number System, practise factors, multiples, divisibility, remainders, HCF, LCM, surds, and indices. Solve different question types for each concept and maintain a list of formulas, identities, and important properties for regular revision.

Master Geometry and Mensuration Formulas

Cover Lines and Angles, Triangles, Circles, Coordinate Geometry, Polygons, and 2D and 3D Mensuration systematically. Memorise important area, volume, perimeter, and surface-area formulas and understand the conditions in which they apply. Practise diagrams-based questions regularly to improve your ability to identify the required theorem or formula quickly.

Build Accuracy in Modern Mathematics

Prepare Probability, Permutations and Combinations, Set Theory, and Logarithms through concept-based practice. For P&C, focus on arrangements and selection-based problems, while Probability requires clarity about favourable and total outcomes. Practise Venn diagrams for Set Theory and standard logarithm properties and equations for Logarithms.

Solve Previous Year Questions and Mock Tests

After completing individual topics, solve IPMAT previous year question papers to understand the types of questions asked and their difficulty levels. Take sectional and full-length mocks to improve speed and accuracy. Analyse every test to identify topics where you make repeated calculation or conceptual errors.
